Inclined Plane

The Inclined Plane Interactive allows students the opportunitiy to quickly and easily investigate the effect of a variable upon the motion of an object along an inclined plane. Students can vary the angle of the incline and the coefficients of static and kinetic friction. Students can vary the mass and initial velocity of the object. Plots of position, velocity, and acceleration as a function of time can be seen. Energy bar charts showing kinetic energy, potential energy, and dissipated energy are also available. The forces and force components can be toggled on and off.

Users are encouraged to open the Interactive and explore. Or if desired, The Physics Classroom has prepared an activity for a more directed experience. The activity was designed with the intent of being used by classroom teachers with their classes.
Learners and Instructors may also be interested in viewing the accompanying Notes page. Technical information, teaching suggestions, and related resources that complement this Interactive are provided on the Notes page. View Notes.

We owe a special thanks to Physics teacher Martin Kirby for contributing the Inclined Plane simulation to our Interactives collection. Martin has contributed many other simulations to our Interactives collection. You can view them all by visiting our page listing all Martin Kirby Simulations. Or visit Martin's website (https://sites.google.com/a/kirbyx.com/) to learn more.
