Lesson 1: Describing Motion with Words

Lesson 1 describes a variety of kinematic quantities and concepts, The distinctions between vectors and scalars, displacement and distance, and speed and velocity and the concept of acceleration are discussed. Items from the group's pool include photos of trains, sprinters, air hockey pucks, radar guns, baseball players, bikers, roller coaster cars, and much more. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 1 of the One Dimensional Kinematics chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 2: Describing Motion with Diagrams

Lesson 2 explains how motion diagrams and ticker tape diagrams (dot diagrams) can be useful representations of the motion of objects. Items from the group's pool include photos of include cliff divers, platform divers, ski jumpers, falling coffee filters, falling pumpkins, and much more. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 2 of the One Dimensional Kinematics chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 3: Describing Motion with Position vs. Time Graphs

Lesson 3 discusses the features of position vs. time graphs and their relationship to the motion of objects. The meaning of the shape and the slope of these graphs are explained. Items from the group's pool include graphs of the motion of rockets and skydivers. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 3 of the One Dimensional Kinematics chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 5: Free Fall and the Acceleration of Gravity

Lesson 5 discusses the concept of free fall and the acceleration of gravity. Free fall is represented using diagrams, graphs and equations. Items from the group's pool include photos of Gallileo and his Pisa experiments and sequence photography shots of cliff jumpers, pumpkin drops and other free-falling objects. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 5 of the One Dimensional Kinematics chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 6: Describing Motion with Equations

Lesson 6 introduces the kinematic equations and models their use in the solving of problems. There are currently no photos that provide a complement to Lesson 6 of the One Dimensional Kinematics chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial. The Physics Classroom encourages teachers and students to combine their cameras and creative juices to contribute to the pool.
