Molarity Calculations

The Molarity Calculations Concept Builder focuses learner attention upon the dissociation of ionic compounds in water. There are three scaffolded activities. The first activity - Case Studies - presents learners with information about two aqueous solutions - the amount of solute and the volume of water. Students must identify which solution has the greatest molarity and the factor by which it is greatest. The second activity - Solution ID - presents learners with information about three aqueous solutions and challenges them to identify any which have a specified molarity. The third and final activity - Solution ID - challenges learners to calculate the molarity of a solution if given the solute identity (formula), the solute mass, and the volume of the water in milliliters. There are a total of 56 questions in this Concept Builder. They are organized into 18 different Question Groups and spread across the three activities. Question-specific help is provided for each of the 18 situations. The built-in score-keeping makes this Concept Builder a perfect candidate for a classroom activity.
